UFC 71: Rampage prepares to do his 'thang'

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson will begin to train six weeks out from his May 26 title fight against UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell, ensuring that he is in top form for only his second — and most important — appearance in the Octagon, according to a wild interview with BoxingTalk.com.
Here's a quote mash from Rampage:
"You don't want to over-peek. You have to know exactly what you are doing so you can be strong and that's a wrap. If you don't know exactly what you are doing, you in a boat load of trouble. Boat load of it!.... I'm ready dog. I'm going to train like I've never trained before. I'm going to have reputable sparring partners and I'm going to do my thang; like I always do. Win, lose or draw, the fans will be happy...."
According to Rampage — and consider the source and his penchant for sarcasm — all the chatter of Liddell considering a move up to heavyweight to face Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic and some other talented fighters is because he's going to get "ass-whooped" at UFC 71.
Here's another gem:
"You know Chuck already anticipating an ass whooping. He talking about moving up to heavyweight because Randy Couture has the belt. I know what's going on. He might get scared and move to heavyweight right before our fight. You never know."
That's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to outrageous comments from the former PRIDE FC standout in the article, who beat the "Iceman" back in 2003.
From his preference to fat Japanese chicks and "flabby labby" to a foreign television interview he conducted drunk and on antibiotics, Rampage offers up yet another classic.
Be sure to check out the entire interview — it's quick and amusing. And, there's another Rampage interview over at ThaFormula.com.

I’m sorry that I cant remember exactly how I found it but I watched a clip off of Google video right before his second fight with Wandy. He was talkin MAD JUNK about how he was going to rip him apart. We all know how that went. You think he would learn his lesson but I guess that’s why everyone likes him.

I beleive Rampage will have a hard time taking Chuck down. Chuck has the best takedown defense in the game. I don’t see where Rampage has the advantage here. Rampage is not a better striker than Chuck. I don’t think his conditioning is going to be that much better than Chuck’s. His only advantage may be his youth, he is 28 and Chuck is 37. It will be a competitive fight, but will end vio KO with Chuck retaining his belt.

Should be a great fight, though I’d have to disagree with Red about Chuck’s takedown defense. I believe B.J. Penn probably lays claim to that title (his insane flexibility makes him really tough to take down—check out the first two rounds of the most recent Hughes fight).

spida-
maybe its because it was years ago, on japanese tv, and he wasnt a champ. lidell is the biggest name in north american mma and represents the UFC as their poster boy. plus, he was OBLITERATED. He didnt just act like an idiot, either, he acted like an overdosed heroin victim!!!!! that tommy morrision shit was pretty hilarious though………

this should be good – Rampage has a pretty good chin, Silva had his way with him, but dude, how many knees to the head does it take. Hopefully, he can get a hold of him and slam the iceman. anyway, cant wait to see the rematch should be awesome.
Bawana and E, check out the Din Thomas/Penn fight as well, Penn was hangin by his leg tangled around Thomas’s arm. looked pretty weird, ….my leg hurt just watchin

QRJ is definitely one hell of a character, he would be a great peoples champ, GO RAMPAGE. I hope he comes out with a super man punch, I have a feeling he’s going to come out strong, but Chuck is a great counter-puncher, MAN I’m pumped. As stated before, if Rampage is the underdog of +400 or more, I’m making the bet.

I like rampage, and im glad he’s gonna be around for awhile, i think that chuck is still gonna take him though….Rampage has a very good chin or had before the Wandy KO…either way i like both of these guys, and Rampage is good for the sport

Rampage is the man to takedown Chuck. It is good to hear that he has good sparring partners down. And for everyone doubting his striking skills, watch his K-1 fight. He did good there.

First off rampages chin proved itself in that Silva fight because even though he lost, he took like 20 hard knees to the chin before the ref stepped in. However if he comes out real aggressively he will suffer the same style tko that babalu got last august( I could see it looking just about like that)

Rampage is one of the few guys that talk a lot of smack that I actually like. I do believe Liddell will KO him though. Regardless, it will be a hell of a fight, and I believe Rampage when he says the fans will be happy

I hope rmpage wins by a power bomb. Chuck is literally getting fat as champ and in my opinion a little to cocky.

“I’m going to do my thang; like I always do. Win, lose or draw, the fans will be happy….”-what about the Eastman fight? I wasnt happy.
“He was talkin MAD JUNK about how he was going to rip him apart. We all know how that went”- Vanderlie pulled off a win just in time, and took a major beating up until, Id say he deserved the “MAD JUNK” he talked. I dont know, I think stylistically Rampage might have it all over Liddell, the same way a healthy Penn has it all over Hughes-thats right, I know what I said.

THe hell with the rest of the fight, the last four punches were plenty enough to make me happy. I love watchin Rampage even if he is dumb as hell. He came out nervous as hell and still finished with an “ASS WHOOPIN”

Chuck is the best UFC fighter out there. His fights are the most exciting, without much trash talk. I hope rampage brings it, cuz we all know that chuck will. Chuck has all the right to be cocky, he is the champ and he is beating his opponents senseless out there. He aint like Tim Sylvia, who is cocky, says he is gonna knock his opponent’s ass out and has the most boring fights one has to pay to see. I predict, first round knock out of rampage.

Ibread, I didn’t hate on Rampage, I said he deserved to talk against Waldo even though he lost, and said he might stylistically have it all over Liddell(who I also said I wouldnt count out against even Fedor or Cro cop) Id say thats quite the compliment really. Penn/Hughes is a fight I actually wouldnt mind seeing for a third time, as much as I ve talked about hating the three of the same match-up shit.
