UFC Quick Quote: MMA is a chess match
"MMA is like chess. You have to think several moves ahead. That's going to weed out a lot of non-intelligent people. It's all about training. If you take a good MMA fighter today and put them against the best MMA fighter back then, the fighter today would dominate. Today's fighters are just so well-rounded. The technique has gotten better over time."
-- UFC middleweight contender Nate Marquardt on the evolution of the mixed martial arts fighter as told to the Boston Herald.

i do agree that the fighters of today are way better than the fighters of way back when, but i could name a bunch of really good fighters with seemingly no intelligence… sorry nate, i dont think a whole lot of you dudes are really that smart

I dont know of too many people who got koed playing chess.
I understand where hes coming from, but thats been the saying for almost 10yrs now. It would be a sad sport if it didnt evolve. The same saying goes for boxing, baseball or hockey.
Mind you the rules are a bit more fighter friendly now. No headstomps, headbunts or punchs/kicks to the beans. NO Weight Limits… You wouldnt see one of those done now.
What would be some dream matches,That would be cool to be able to have happen.
Marco Ruas vs Anderson Silva
Karo Parisyan vs Royce Gracie
Dan Severn vs Jeff Monson
Don Frye vs Koscheck
Oleg Taktarov vs Nate Marquart
Not exactly a walk in the park for our new age fighters.
If our older fighters were in their prime.

interesting matchups, I think Frye would destroy koscheck, he was fighting angry and “he had to vent”. not positive on this but i think at 8 he made it through the finals in under 3 minutes pretty much untouched.
I would like to see Royce v Karo in the finals after 3 fights each.
I actually would love to see any current UFC guy fight in the tournament style.

I just put a bunch I thought would be fun to see…
I didnt really put too much thought into the weights and such as there werent any rules about weight back when the oldies fought.
How about…
Don Frye vs Forest Griffin
Kevin Randalman vs Tito Ortiz
Tank Abbot vs Tim Silvia
You will notice I never listed Liddell, Cotoure or
You cant really help but get an old time (Legend)feel of these guys.
