UFC 71: Chuck Liddell vs. Rampage Jackson 2 now official

ufc 71 chuck liddel vs quinton rampage jackson
As expected, UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell will defend his title at UFC 71 on May 26 against the one of only three men to defeat him -- and the only man who he has not beat of the trio -- Quinton Rampage Jackson, according to UFC.com.

(Note: Since we posted this story, UFC.com has taken down the UFC 71 fight card page, which did feature Liddell-Jackson).

Over the weekend, we passed along a report that the highly anticipated rematch was a done deal. However, it's never really 100 percent certain unless we get confirmation right from the official source.

Well, now we finally have it.

An announcement is expected today or sometime this week. One of our readers, however, passed along the link to fight card, which is currently not easily accessible from the main page.

We'll update this post when more details emerge.

For the other potential bouts on the UFC 71 fight card at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, that same evening click here.

And, to check out the video of their first encounter back in 2003 click here.

Win lose or draw on either side, I don’t want to hear any crying. ‘Rampage wasn’t ready’ ‘Chuck was ’sick’’…ect. Both of these guys damn well better just be ready.

by Tommy on Mar 20, 2007 11:21 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

yeah no shit, either way, they both have a couple months to get ready for eachother

I’ll say it again… Bet the house on Rampage

by Patrick on Mar 20, 2007 12:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

This is gonna be amazing. I want Rampage to put a few nasty elbow bruises in Chuck’s side like he did the first time they encountered each other.

by noel on Mar 20, 2007 12:19 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I agree with the “no excuses” rule. These guys are pros no crying when ya get whooped….and no fans should be making excuses for their favorite guy either.

I think Rampage is gonna take this. Chuck threw some heavy shots at Rampage and he still kicked his ass.

by nathan on Mar 20, 2007 12:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

rampage is in chucks world now he’s gonna get his ass KTFO. if you watch the first fight chuck would of used the cage to stand up in that situation

by RoB on Mar 20, 2007 1:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m with you guys. No excuses. I’m going with chuck by KO in the third, and I want to be called out on if he loses. I love rampage, and I know he’s a great dad and a christian fella, and if he wins, Lord bless him, but I like chuck’s style and personality more. Plus the fact that he’s trying to break out into a rap career erks me, why does every occupation for a black male have to lead to a rap career? Just fight slick, and quit howling.

by DoctorSamson on Mar 20, 2007 1:21 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I agree, no excuses. I got chuck by KO in the third, and someone call me out if he loses.

Blah, Blah, Blah .. It’s time for everyone to hop off of Chuck’s nuts and realize that this is Rampage’s world!

frankly i dont think there is anyone in mma that can get chuck down and keep him down anymore. if he loses it will be because some one with good hands landed a bomb

Should be a hell of a fight. Rampage a can take a lot of punishment, more than most fighters as seen in the Silva fights. It will be interesting to see if Chuck is able to handle someone who is able to take some of his hardest shots. Also having never really been under any pressure for a long while in a fight, if does happen, how will he be able to cope with it. It should definately be a good one.

by Ade on Mar 20, 2007 7:05 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I agree, no BS, strait up, lets see some blood. If the odds are highly favored for Liddell ( 300 or more), I’m putting a c-note on Rampage.

Funny you say that cause I just caught Ramage vs Shogun Rua on Fox Sports and it didn’t look like Rampages world. maybe you should rethink who you declare dictator of the world, freak

Blah, Blah, Blah Jesse1 … Who cares about the Rampage vs. Rua fight? Things change and that’s what you have to understand. I have a C-Note on Rampage just as well as w153r .. Chuck hasn’t fought anyone as real as Rampage. Granted, they did fight several years ago and Rampage won although; things have changed for the both of them. It’s going to be a good fight.

If Nyquil doesnt train for this one like he should, he is gonna get KTFO. He didnt train properly for TO, and looked like shit in that fight. If he trains like he did for Babalu, then QRJ can hang it up now.
One thing I know for sure, I can guarantee Rampage will train like its his last fight on earth. And all references to QRJ v. CL I and QRJ v. Silva/Rua are all pointless. None of those fighters are the same today as they were then.

I predict if Rampage loses, its because of a confidence problem, we all know the physical ability is there, if Chuck loses, then its because hes been partying to much. I like both fighters, based on recent events however, I predict Chuck KO rampage 2nd round mid way.

by Chadx23 on Mar 22, 2007 2:39 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Rampage is the only man alive to have beaten Chuck in a pro fight and not had his ass handed to him afterwards,Chuck is SO hungry for this, and for that reason alone i got Chuck by KO in any round, not to mention the fact that Rampage is in Chucks world now, nobody beats Chuck in UFC anymore. Rampage doesnt have a hope in hell.

by PeRO on Mar 23, 2007 2:04 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Rampage definately has what it takes to beat Chuck again, but as well as fighting Chuck he going to have to fight his nerves. He admitted that he was nervous after the fight with Eastman and that he needed to get a few more fights in to get comfortable in the UFC. This has not happned, so if he still feels this way he’s already lost the fight, if he has got past this then I think he will win it.

I am suprised this hasn’t been covered here as well, but with all the goodness going on in the last few days it’s not a biggie. Anyway:

“White mentioned that the UFC is looking at none other than young PRIDE standout Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (16-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) — 12-1 in PRIDE — of Brazil’s vaunted Chute Boxe Academy to fight the winner of Chuck Liddell and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, who headline the UFC 71 event on May 26."

Now that’s amazing news to me! Dana might be trying to feed Shogun to the lions in his first octagon fight to capitalize on his cage inexperience, but he’s in it for a suprise I forsee.

by jeff on Apr 9, 2007 12:16 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Rampage looked like sh1t in his last fight, and Liddell has dominated everyone in his way for the last three years. No way Chuck loses (feel free to call me out on that on the 27th). Liddell wins by ref stoppage a.k.a. Big Jon feeling bad for letting Rampage get beat the fuck down. Pick a round, doesn’t matter, Chuck wins.

you all know 2003 was chucks worst year of his entire life and now hes at the top of his game more than anyone in the sport its gonna be a bad night for rampage hes gonna be the one crying like a bitch this time you mark my words! Then chuck to beat shogun, crocop, fedor all first round tko easy.THen he will be rmembered as the greatest fighter of all time and muhamid ali and all his boxing chronies will be lost from the memory of mankind…..FOREVER!!!!!!HA HAHA HAAAAA

Are you kidding me? Rampage will not only take Liddell’s belt he’s gonna smash him into retirement wether in a cage, ring, cardboard box, or my mamma’s kitchen.

If you even pay attention to MMA the only fighters Rampage ever lost to were because he took a fight out of his weight class (dropping too much weight too fast) or due to injury. Against Shogun he suffered multiple fractured ribs via a knee and still fought on.

Please and docsampson…If Ramapge wants to rap, what, you gonna tell him not to? I didn’t think so. Besides, I heard him rap and he’s not that bad. When he takes the belt from chucky we’re all in for a huge RAGGIN party!

Yeah whoever posted this doesn’t know what hes talking about Shogun is completely different from other fighters. This guy has the best and most uncommon stand up I’ve ever seen. His ground skills are amazing. Hes fought the best I wouldn’t even put him on a level where rampage and chuck are. If you wanted to test shogun compare him to fedor emelianenko who I think is the best MMA fighter due to his composure and the fact that he is one tough guy who can take punishment and dish out punishment. Watch hes fights carefully and listen to the sounds of his punches which definately sound like an axe cutting through wood. Shogun is THE FUTURE OF MMA. As for Lidell and Rampage fight Rampage has amazing recovery and has better conditioning than liddell in terms of strength Chuck is probably a little stronger in terms of punching power. If you saw the first fight lidell hit rampage with a few clean shots and if thats what hes got then hes gonna lose. Compare the last few fights that those fighters fought. But don’t overlook the fact that one little mistake that the fighters make can cost them the match. But dont make a mistake about my comments about Fedor and Shogun they are the two greatest fighters that I’ve ever seen

I’m not here to take away anything from rampage, lets face it, this guy can take some serious shots. Silvia had to hit him with a bunch of knees to knock him out, so I can only wonder if chuck’s hands can knock him out. Of course Chuck would beat the living shit out of silvia but thats not the fight. Rampage is a very boring fighter to watch. I cant stand him, but that big black faggot can take some punches and dish out some ugly ones, literally his punches are just ugly looking. He is just a tuff guy not a good fighter. Chuck is gong to win tko in the 2nd or 3rd round. The wannabe rapper isnt going to be knocked out cold but the ref will stop chuck from pounding on his face. all of you rampage fans dont know the first thing about mma. If you doubt chucks abbility you havent looked at the facts.

fuck rampage and fuck him in his stupid ass. i hope he dies. he actually thinks he is going to kill chuck. He is washed up. it was funny watching him knocked out cold in the ropes. haha and he was talking so much shit to silvia. that is funny. now he thinks he will be the first one to kill someone in mma. he is funny i will give him that. good jokes bad raps, he has all the recipes for a successful comedian. he beat eastman and they give him a title shot. EASTMAN? that is stupid. who doesnt beat eastman? The only thing he has going for him is a huge head. that head is fucking huge. if for some reason rampage wins, he will end up losing the title his next fight. he is not a champion. i would put my house on this fight. rampage will lose. and he will lose again. and again. who wants to see him as a chamion. the should have let him fight tito first.

Hmmm..Silvia? It’s Silva..but to say that chuck will definately beat rampage lol. Anything can go Cro Cop and Gonzaga which I think was a wake up call just like the time when Crop Cop lost to Randleman. Rather than picking a fighter I’d say it will be a close match it won’t end in a decision.

“fuck rampage and fuck him in his stupid ass. i hope he dies. he actually thinks he is going to kill chuck.”

As for that comment I’d say his sutpid ass beat chuck and he killed chuck on their last match.

Rampage is nothing but a talker. Trash talking gets you nowhere in this sport. It will be hard to talk trash when Chuck punches his teeth down his throat.

if you would have watched the first fight chuck was winning that fight then got and got took his beting… but since them chuck has faught the better compertors such as the randy, tito, jermey horn so many more. rampage has got his ass kicked once or twice by silva, and in his last fight he looked like a bitch fighting marvin eastman. chuck wins without a shot of doubt in the world

LOL more than ufc I’m getting a little tired of the oh lord…..or lord god….jesus lord…..lord jesus. Jesus has NOTHING to do with the fights, keep the religion at home.

oh please….pretty please could I maybe say the name of Jesus in public? PLEASE… Mr. Secularist (or atheist?)PLEASE LET ME SAY THE NAME OF JESUS!!! PLEASE PLEASE GIVE ME PERMISSION!!!!! PLEASE

When you can do what Matt Hughes has done, you can say anything you want to. Can you duplicate the MMA record of Matt Hughes MR.BIG-SHOT??? Based on his record, he earned the right to say whatever he wants to !!!!

JUST WHO ARE YOU to DEMAND that Matt or Diego follow your “don’t-mention-Jesus-post-fight-script”???

THEY CAN SAY WHATEVER THE HECK THEY WANT TO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EVERYBODY HAS A RIGHT TO EXPRESS THEIR BELIEFS (whether secular or religous) IN THE PUBLIC ARENA, WHETHER U LIKE THE NATURE OF WHAT THEY SAY OR NOT.

This is still a free country.
THANK YOU JESUS!

Rampage wins by TKO first round. rampage and iceboy exchange some shots rampage uses his block to get inside and back chuck up . shortly after that he will land a straight punch stunning iceboy. then rampage will scoop lil iceboy and slam him on his pumpkin pie haircutted head. rampage wins via tko at 1:39 of round one.
