Randy Couture: ‘I want to fight Cro Cop now'

Fresh off his dominant and sensational win over Tim Sylvia at UFC 68, UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture wants to fight top contender Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic before he gets any better inside a cage, according to the Houston Chronicle.
That's because the crux of Cro Cop's mixed martial arts experience comes inside a ring — not an Octagon.
Here's a snip:
"I'd like to fight him now before he gets his feet any wetter in the cage. I think the tactics in the Octagon are still pretty new to him, and that's maybe something I can exploit."
Couture will have to wait, however, at least until summer to "exploit" any perceived weaknesses in one of the most complete fighters in the sport today. Cro Cop will battle Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 70: "Nations Collide" on April 21.
The winner of that fight gets Couture later on this year.
For what it's worth, Cro Cop spent a little more than 240 professional seconds inside the Octagon at UFC 67, blasting through Eddie Sanchez rather easily. And, after the fight, Cro Cop did make some statements that Sanchez had a lot more room to run and hide than he was used to.
But, after what he did at the Nationwide Arena — outstriking the striker — I doubt that Couture will do much running and hiding. In fact, it's a match up that factored into his decision to come out of retirement.
Here's a snip:
"He's certainly one of the guys that made it interesting to even think about coming into the heavyweight division. That played into my decision to throw my hat into the ring at heavyweight."
Ever the gamer, Couture is already looking for an edge in his next fight. However, he's going to weather a much more ferocious storm against the Croatian than he did against the "Maine-iac."
Absent Sylvia's game were kicks, which allowed Couture to focus primarily on head movement and zinging the giant with overhand punches.
Cro Cop will without a doubt mix it up with those deadly kicks of his, which are perhaps the most efficient and deadly assets in MMA today. And, they have the same result whether or not he's in a ring or cage.
However, Couture once again sees something. He feels with all the time he spent in the eight-sided cage, he's learned a thing or two that will help him beat Cro Cop.
Far be it from me to doubt the man, especially after what he just accomplished.

Who am I? I think he can do it. Just don’t get caught Randy. Not once. Tim’s tim’id ass never touched you. Cro Cop will eventually get to your chin. Can you stay awake?

Randy has joined Nyquil at the Fair Oaks recovery center. Apparently they both have addiction to PCP.

Listen, to all the folks who have never seen Crocop fight other than on the internet or in the UFC, Crocop ALWAYS attacks smaller guys. He’s like a frigging pitbull on crank. When Blowgums says he has a tendency to run or dance, the only time that has ever happened was against Fedor ( only slightly, as it was better strategy ) Bob Sapp ( 8’ tall and 800lbs. until he smelled the blood ), and Hunt when Crocop was injured ( a multiple REAL injuries ). He’s gonna come at Randy like a frigging freight train. If Liddell can one punch KO him, well, remember Silva’s exploded head and nose.

It is a very good match up for Randy Couture, i’d give him the edge over Cro Cop because hes not that good off his back, but hes a great scrambler and could end up on top of Randy

I saw Cro Cop ending fights with a single kick to the quadriceps. I don’t see Randy having the time to put any kind of gameplan into action. No matter how good you can wiggle with your head to avoid the left punch, the kicks will evantually get you and good luck stopping those to take him down.

I like randy but Crocop is quite a diffrent animal compared to tiimmmmy…Its going to be very difficult to execute a perfect gameplan against a fighter of that caliber.

Agree, I really like Randy, the guy’s a PROPER legend , a great fighter and comes across as a great guy. BUT…. CroCop is really dangerous and WAY more so than Liddell and Tim (see it coming 3 days earlier) Silvia. In my opinion, Randy could be in danger of being really hurt. Mirko’s kicks are evil powerful and they come from a long way off and really fast. If I was Randy I’d retire as the best UFC fighter ever and love all the attention. Of course we all know he’s NEVER gonna do that and he will fight Mirko. Let’s all hope he gets through it (win or lose) safe and healthy.
As for UFC 68 yyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhaaaaaaaaaaa go Randy :)

AURIGHT! RANDY ROCKS
Damb he really is a natural. Tim Silvia hade nothing on him. He has way more experience
and he’s a legend! What makes it way more worst for Tim is that Randy came out of retirement and he kicked ass. Tim has no excuse as to how bad he was hurtin cause Randy went through just as much. His stand up and ground skills are at the top and he took his strenght up to the next level. Oh and as for the Mirko fight I say do it. No matter who you put in the ring Randy will surely come out with the VICTORY!
GOOD LUCK CHAMP WE’RE ALL ROOTING 4 YA!!!!!!!!!……………

I have a lot of respect for Randy, but… I dont see any heavyweight in the UFC competing with Mirko. BUT, if Randy does have a shot, it will be just like this… very very soon, and Randy will use the cage to his advantage.

you guys are such a bunch of wilmas…even after every one doubted randy he still beat tim’s A-hole…it’s not about kicks and punches and take downs, this is a thinking mans sport…and randy is a fricking mental master…
…point is cro cop is gunna get smashed on, at the hands of captain america
…and the streets will flow red with the blood of the non-believers.

Randy is a great man and fighter but unfortunatelly thats not enaugh to stop CroCop killer strikes – not in that age.
Tim Silvia didnt show anything on UFC 68 – he was scared cause everyone boooed him….
I feel soory for Randy’s fans but he will lose – lets hope it wont hurt…

So you just cant just come out and say Randy is going to lose because he is in this position because he is a good fighter…I don’t think it is a hands down Cro Cop wins fight…Hitman you are going to look mighty dumb(actually you might of already accomplished that) if Cro Cop loses…

A lessen was learned by some, but not by all. Never doubt Randy Couture. Some people here are now saying Tim wasn’t showing anything, but Cro Cop will destroy Randy. Tim said it himself, he was reluctant to strike for fear of the takedown, something he wasn’t worried about with Arlovski. Striker vs grappler makes for a different fight than striker vs striker. And now that I’ve seen what Randy can do, how smart he is, he has a huge chance against Cro Cop, the striker. He will bob and weave less because of Mirko’s kicks, but he will also wait and shoot of them. Does anyone doubt once that happens that Randy could take Cro Cop down and make something happen? If you can’t see it as a possibilty, your lessen was not learned on saturday, and you get a failing grade.

COUTURE BEAT CRO COP THE SECOND BEST FIGHTER IN THE WORLD IS A JOKE.JUST BECAUSE HE JUST BEAT AN INFERIOR IS A MISTAKE.BUT A BETTER FIGHT WOULD BE WHAT I BELIVE THE THIRD BEST FIGHTER IN THE WORLD WOULD BE HENDERSON VS CHUCK HE JUST BEAT ONE OF THE LONGEST HOLDING TITLE HOLDERS IN THE HISTORY OF MMA HOLDS TWO BELTS NEVER BEEN KNOCKED OUT AND HAS BATTLED BETTER ALL AN ALL COMPITITION OVER ALL THIS FIGHT SHOULD BE TALKED ABOUT MORE THAN COUTURE CRO COP
by alpha on Mar 5, 2007 7:32 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Yeah I love Randy to and he has won some great fights, but comparing a win over a half hearted at best mediocre fighter and champ (only because of the lack of competion, much like Roy Jones JR in boxing-the self proclaimed-greatest fighter pound for pound, that fought nobody) to a Cro Cop caliber fighter is crazy. Hey there is always a fighters chance it is the UFC, no doubt, but the skill level is completely different. Cro Cop would have dispatched, and maybe we will still be blessed with seeing it, Sylvia with extreme quickness and brutality. His speed, power level, sprawl, and world class experience are 100 times that of Slyvia. I personally do not see Randy getting past the 2nd, maybe with some luck the 3rd round. If he does awesome and I have greatly under estimated him but I really do not feel that I am over estimating Cro Cop’s ability. That ability I think would take Randy out relatively quick. Even Randy wants an angle on this guy, he wants to fight him before he gets his feet real wet in the Cage. That alone should say a bunch. Capatain America wants Mirko before he gets his feet wet. He knows he needs an edge. That what that says to me. Randy mos def one of the greatest evr but Cro Cop is a different Monster all together, why do you think they brought him to the UFC!

Cro-Cop does not have an undefeated record. which means he has been dented, he has been defeated, and he has been knocked out. Credit Deservingly to Cro-Cop who does have arguably the most dangerous arsenal of wheapons in the stand up game in the ufc. He does have weaknesses, he can be taken down and he can be neutralized. Anyone whose been around MMA Long before the TUF promotion made the ufc larger then life seen what happened to him in PRIDE against kevin randleman. He was manhandled dropped with a not so solid punch and pounded into the mat with bone crushing elbows. yes it has been a long time since Cro Cop VS Randleman but what im trying to get at is he lost to a world class wrestler..Styles make fights and Cro-Cop has had a little trouble with world class wrestlers (Randleman, Fedor,.. so dont go throwin in the towel against couture just yet.. the guy looked to be in the best shape of his storied career.. or close to it in the Sylvia fight. I get sick of hearing people bash a legend and give Cro-cop much more credit then he deserves..I mean he deserves credit.. but hes not a robot.

Sure Cop is better than Silvia. At least then we pay to see a fight and not a some bum come get beat up. I don’t even care who wins…just wanna see something great.

I read somewhere that Randy has won 9 out of 10 fights he has been underdog(before the Timmy fight), and the loss was against Liddell. So i wouldn’t count out Captain America just yet. Sure enough Cro Cop is a different fighter, but look at Randy’s first punch he threw in the Timmy fight.

I am not impressed with these blog performances!
I cannot believe what I was reading.
First of all, Cro Cop is not a multifaceted fighter like Couture.
Couture is gonna crush him, and I cannot wait!
Cro Cop’s game is very easy to read and take apart. Stalking someone around the octagon waiting to execute the big kick….
BORING AND DATED!!!!!!!!!
Cro Cop does not stand a chance, and neither does Rampage against Liddell.
Cro Cop’s has no game on the ground, he’s an open target for Randy. He will not make it to give Randy all those kicks you guys think he is going give. Randy will capitalize on that and take him down and ground and pound him.

I like the humour of some guys here, but saying that Cro Cop lost to guys who are alot weaker than Randy and the listing Randleman and Fedor. LOL!
First off: everyone can get a lucky punch and Cro Cop redeemed himself with the 2nd match in my eyes. Everyone was saying Cro Cop is #3 worldwide, because something like that never happened to Nog … well, after Pride 33 I didn’t saw much of those comments anymore. If you believe Randy can stand in the ring with Fedor and make it to decision you are crazy. While I have become a big fan of randy over the last few months, I simply can’t see anyone in the UFC stoppin Cro Cop. And sizing Cro Cop up by his first and only UFC match is only something people who don’t know jack about MMA worldwide can think of. Silly really.

YouTapped, that was little Nog, not Big Nog, but I know what you mean. Besides they both have chins of granite. Big Nog is the ONLY man alive, including Fedor, to take a full high left leg kick to the jaw and then an overhand right from Crocop, and not topple like a bleach blonde whore in front of Liddell.

Aww, you’re right of course. Nonetheless they have similiar qualities in terms of taking punishment like it was nothing. And yet a single (lucky) punch finished him off. i have never been to croatia, but i still wont count randy out of this one, but i wont say that hes gonna beat Cro Cop either…unlike sunny, i will back up my reasoning…yes cro cop has beaten very good wrestlers with ease as mtufc pointed out..coleman and randleman…but randy has way more heart than coleman and way more brains than randleman..coleman gave up and randleman fought like he was on crack…randy is a greco roman wrestler, that makes for a different type of takedown than these guys tried…he will used to fence to his advantage like he has in his previous fights..pinning the opponant against the fence, using leverage and strength to take the guy down by his midsection torso area, unlike the flailing double leg takedowns of coleman…the cage is Randys biggeest asset, and if he takes him down, i think he can keep him there….but the cage doesnt take anything away from Crocop hands or feet, so if cro cop keeps the distance and uses his strikes, he wins with ease, if randy gets in close and nuetralizes cro cops assets, he will take him to the limit

As for Tommy’s last blog here, my husband has been teaching mma for over 20 years, creating his own style, not me!
Sunny Santoro is my blog name, not my real name. Why is it so difficult for you to comprehend that there are women out there who can not only have 10 years of education under their belt, but be beautiful as well? Maybe you have not had the wonderful experience of meeting women like myself yet.
Could it be that the US is so plagued with lower educational standards, obesity, and other health issues that this is why I continue to see such a vast difference in the mentality of you guys vs other individuals from other countries?
As for " YouTapped", I have travelled to over 52 different countries with my work and with my husband reacruiting and training up and coming hopefuls. In Croatia where the English language is obviously not their first language, instad of saying " I’m gonna kick your butt" like North Americans might say" Croations like Cro Cop make rougher comments ( differences in translation) like " left leg hospital and right leg cemetary. We get what he is trying to say, but that does not intimidate me at all. There are many many more skilled and powerful fighters out there that all of us have not seen here in North America. Why? No money, social skills and not a clue about how to get here.
Cro Cop is a powerful kick boxer, yes I agree with that. But in MMA, expecially in the UFC, you need much more than that to win against the likes of Randy Couture. I am not American, yet I stand proud and loyal for this man, who I have been watching fight since I was 15 years old ( now 31). Yet time and time again how many Americans out there at at this site doubt this mans capabilites and think that these foreigners have a chance. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and beliefs, I am speaking from my own personal knowledge and education, and I believe I am right here.
Just like I stated here that Randy would crush Silvia, I am again 100% confident in Randy taking out Cro Cop.
Cro Cop is not a challenge for Randy,
Heh Dana, I would love to see Randy and Andrei go at it?
I think that would be an incredible and much more entertaining fight!

Whats with all the bitching and whining in some of these posts!?! Get off Cro cops nuts, he is not invincible. Randy is entirely capable of beating him. So is Chuck. If Cro Cop walked through both of those guys, I would be VERY suprised. I like Cro Cop by the way, i just think its ridiculous how some people think he is so badass he can blow through Chuck or Randy…WRONG! Can Crocop beat both of them, yea sure he can, just as easily as Randy or Chuck could beat him. Any of those fights would be great to watch, but I don’t see a one sided beat down of Randy or Chuck.
My honest opinion: CC v Rany = CC via KO 2nd
CC v Chuck = Chuck via TKO 3rd
I’m also tired of hearing how Rampage is gonna smash Liddell. LOL people, thats was in 03, 4 years ago, Randy spanked Chuck and look what Chuck came back to do not once, but twice! Rampage is still a badass yea, but I dont see him taking Liddell’s belt.
Based on what I saw in the UFC 66 fight:
Rampage v Liddell = Liddell KO 2nd round

Sunny, 16 years ago ( when u were 15 ) wasnt Randy teaching wrestling at a college? preparing for the Olympics? with 4 more years of that in front of him? He was an alternate 88-96.
It’s “right leg hostipal, left leg cemetery.”
And Crocop didnt fight MMA in Croatia, ever. He kickboxed in the military. In 96, when you were 20, he started kickboxing for real. Now, you could have been in Croatia then, as you havent told us where your from, but you’d have had to be in THE CROATIAN MILITARY TO HAVE “SEEN HIM FIGHT WAY BEFORE PRIDE”. Unless of course you mean in K-1, then I would say, WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING? Your smugness at times belies an asian ancestory, or possibly middle eastern, but I would go with asian.

I do not think most people are saying Cro Cop is invincible, but comparing what Randy did to Sylvia as a prediction factor for a fight against Cro Cop is absurd. Sylvia has as much heart as Cro Cops doo doo stank. Randy mos def brings something to the table that the other wrestlers did not and that is the leverage of Greko Roman wrestling and the huge leverage that it has in the cage, which is exactly why he wants to fight Cro Cop before he gets his feet wet. Randy also brings a different kind of heart to the table, that most fighters do not bring, still all and all Cro Cop is a different striker all together. He will test Randy’s wrestliing, as randy will test Cro Cop’s striking, it is not going to be cake walk for either man…I just think using that fight against Sylvia as any kind of comparison is crazy!

I’m not counting out randy, I honestly thought silvia would win that fight and was utterly shocked. If you asked me one week ago if couture would have a chance against cro cop I would have laughed. I think it will be one hell of a fight, couture seems to be smarter in his old age and I think only a good wrestler would have much of a chance against cro cop, because he’s scary on his feet. I now don’t believe it will be a one sided fight, cro cop is obviously the more dangerous fighter but this is mma and anything can happen. Good luck randy!

If you consider “Right leg hospital, left leg cemetery” a rough comment you have not learned anything about the croatian culture on your “more than a dozen time” trips.
Neither me nor anyone else here says that Cro Cop is invincible. We’ve all seen his fights against Minotauro and Fedor and know that there are guys out there who can either neutralize his world-class assets or take whatever he deals out as if their are rocks (damn, Minotauro must have the worlds best chin). But to neutralize or even win against Cro Cop you must be on the level of such fighters and comparing Randy with Fedor… oh c’mon! Give me a break!

On the subject finally. I gotta say Chad to me makes the most sense. I mean to believe Cro Cop has no chance sounds silly. He at least has a punchers chance. We all know Randy can be knocked out and lets face it, the older you get the less force you can take to the chin. Cro Cop is weak to wrestling and has never face the caliber of ‘wrestler’ he is and maybe all around fighter. So either way it goes it will be a tremendous match-up. I will be going for Randy and feel the only people that should be rooting for C.C. is Pride supporters and people from that tiny little country.

Sunny, you’re wrong about Couture, after high school Randy spent 6 years in the army and after that was an assistant wrestling and grappling coach at Oregon State University not Oklahoma.
PS – could you please never talk again.

DAMN, Donohue, you beat me too it. That timeline is so fucked up, I was having a problem trying to figure out where to start picking it apart.
You nailed the Couture part, I’ll take the Crocop part.
Mirko had two pro fights ( same night I think ) in his career in 96. In 1997 Crocop wasnt fighting. He was fulltime with Alpha then. He didnt return to fighting in K-1 until late 98-to mid 99.
Sorry Sunny, but that shit isnt gonna get by here. Try Sherdog. Go hang with the 14 yr olds. They may buy your crap. You werent in Borat were you?

For those that say that Randy can take Cro Cop in the ground, please don’t embarass yourselves and watch some of Cro Cop’s old tapes. Look at his fight with Fedor. Fedor is an expert in Sambo and extremely strong had trouble taking Cro Cop down and even when he did take Cro Cop down, could not dominate. Note that Fedor is nasty on the ground. Cro Cop has an excellent ground game and takedown defense. Believe it.

I’ve read all these brain killing letters, words and sentences on this site and the only thing I get from you all is headache!
People you are all “word grappling” about a very simple thing.
Randy or Mirko, Mirko or Randy….?
Shit, be at least honest and take a couple of minutes, hours, days,… as long as you need and put all the good and all the bad from each of the fighters on the line and you will come to a really normal conclusion.
Randy is a great fighter, but…
Randy is a legend.
Randy is older. With age you loose speed.
Randy is great in grappling, better than he is striking.
What else is there that can you really need in a fight ??
Then on the other side you have Mirko ! I don’t believe you people can be so blind!
Sorry all you Randy fans, I just don’t see any reason to be
excited. I just hope this fight isn’t not going to put Randy in the hospital!
All of you should just take a break and hope for the best, because, at this time, hope is all Randy has!

Believe it or not Randy Couture not only studied German, he graduated with a degree in it at the UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA…
where I studied pre-med.
But I guess when certain individuals such as MoreThanUfc only regurgatate what they read online or on TV, they wouldn’t know what I know. Randy attended Oregon University much later.
As for user names, why would I use my real name? Did anyone ever think that people APPRECIATE THEIR PRIVACY!!!

Sunny, its possible he got a German degree during his self imposed hiatus, but he doenst even list it on his own website.
Now the UFC site states verbatim what you are saying. In fact how you wrote it is a plagiarization of what’s on their site. Cut and paste? But isnt that the site that also states Kimo is a 3rd degree black belt in Mumbo Jumbo ( karate, Wing Chun, something ) that he himself has said he never got?
So, w/e. Last time Im gonna debate with you the whereabouts of one Randy Couture.

I’d like to see a fight between Randy “The Giant Killer” Couture and Mirko “Cro-Cop” because I think it would be an awesome test of a grappler vs a striker!!
My heart says Randy, but my brain says Mirko.
Randy showed the world that age isn’t always a factor, at least not when you have the heart he does, when going up against an opponent that (on paper, like Joe Rogan said) should beat him.
I couldn’t choose a winner, but I’d love to see it if/when it goes down!! Either way, it’s a win-win for me cause I’d be happy with either one winning.

IMDb profile
Casino is a 1995 movie directed by Martin Scorsese, based on the book of the same name by Nicholas Pileggi and Larry Shandling. Robert De Niro stars as Sam “Ace” Rothstein, a top gambling handicapper who is called by the Mob to oversee the day-to-day operations at the fictional Tangiers Casino in Las Vegas. The story is based on Frank “Lefty” Rosenthal, who ran the Stardust, Fremont and the Hacienda casinos in Las Vegas for The Mob from the 1970s until the early 1980s.
Joe Pesci plays Nicky Santoro, based on the real-life Anthony “Tony the Ant” Spilotro, an intimidating enforcer for the Chicago Outfit. Santoro is sent to Vegas by the bosses to make sure that money from the Tangiers is skimmed off the top and that the casinos and mobsters in Vegas are kept in line. Sharon Stone plays Rothstein’s wife, the self-obsessed, spoiled, devious and sly Ginger, a role that earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
Pileggi has described Casino as Scorsese’s last installment to his gangster trilogy, supplementing Mean Streets and Goodfellas. However, the film has more obvious stylistic connections to the latter (Goodfellas), Scorsese’s 1990 cinematic masterpiece[citation needed]. Also, both films were based on a book by Pileggi and starred De Niro and Pesci. For these reasons, some people even consider Casino an unofficial sequel to Goodfellas[citation needed].

I went on vacation for a week, and look at this disaster… I want to see Sunny Santoro vs. MoreThanUFC on the next ppv. Where did all these new blogger’s come from since UFC 68? I love to see this site getting hugh, but I prefer intelligent conversation.
Congrat’s go out to Randy for the incredible win… I didn’t think he could get around Tim’s jab, but what a great gameplan! Rare that the main even turns out to be great! I decided Randy can win vs. Crocop. Always bet on Couture when he is the underdog!
I missed you guys, but Cancun was AWESOME! It was probably pretty week compared to travelling the world and seeing 52 different countries. The fruity drinks flowed like Tim Silvia on an episode of Blind Date, and I even tried a geasshopper to see if the Maniac was on too anything, but it tasted like poop.
by TRavis on Mar 12, 2007 12:41 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
If Randy Couture’s gameplan was exploiting crocop’s newness to the octagon do you really think he’d give that away. In fact apart from the walls the big 8’ tangle would favor crocop with striking room. The walls – that’d have to be it. Trap Crocop against a wall … although even Fedor conrolled but could never really corner slippery crocop in the ring.
How? could he beat crocop?
Fedor’s fight would be a good rough model for Couture, in that Fedor attacked relentlessly and didn’t give Crocop much chance plant a foot. even so crcocop landed some very good punches’on the defense’. Fedor didn’t get by without having to block some kicks either.
The far away punches were good for tagging the slower sylvia repeatedly. Sylvia was too afraid of getting taken down by Couture and sadly didn’t use kicking – that’s why much shorter Couture tagged him so easily with punches. Randleman’s KO was a valid approach, but relys on the perfect chance. ( i don’t wanna say a great fighter like randleman wassimply lucky. but……
also randleman is as fast/explosive as they come.
by pgam on Mar 13, 2007 11:48 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
If Fedor couldn’t finish Crocop what makes everyone think Randy will??? All Couture did was show how overrated Sylvia really is. Fact is Crocop will murder Couture faster and easier than Chucky did. Crocop will also murder liddell when chuck bumps up to heavyweight. Anything can happen but Randy is going to get killed.

As much as I like Randy, I think the only real chance he has is getting in a good punch in the first round like Randleman did. He knocked Tim down so we know he is capable. If this does not happen in the first round then I see him getting knocked out with a punch or kick in probably the third round. One of the reasons I say this is not just because he is fighting one of the best strikers in the game, it’s because of how fatigued and tired Randy was and how slow he was moving in the second round and after. With Tim, he could get away with that, but being that tired and slow against Cro Cop, I just can’t imagine him not getting caught. Tim was putting no pressure on him whatsoever, and he was this tired so with added pressure and body kicks how tired will he be then.
Randy finaly exposed what a crap fighter Tim really is, but he will really need to sort his speed and his cardio out if he wants to get past the second round let alone beat Cro Cop.
by Ade on Mar 15, 2007 9:45 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, Randy will have to go back to the drawing board for Cro Cop. I can’t wait to see what he does about the leg kicks. He showed awesome striking and maneuvering skills with Silvia. I’m glad it was Randy to put him down, especially the way he did. Five rounds of punishment. But everyone knows Mirco doesn’t have a problem going five rounds and has awesome defense for takedowns. I’ll be surprised if it goes five rounds. I can’t wait to see it. Its surprising everyone (including Randy) is wanting to get the fight on while Mirco hasn’t even fought Gonzaga.

Without a doubt Randy is a truly great wrestler, but for all of you who think that this will be a really great advantage to him, look at what Cro Cop can do to Josh Barnett. I think Josh is definately better than Randy when it comes to wrestling and submissions, and I beleive that if Josh was stll in the UFC, he would still be champion today. Against Cro Cop though, as good as he is, even he isn’t good enough.
by Ade on Mar 16, 2007 12:34 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
apples and oranges dude…you cant compare fighters by fights in the past…Barnett got Koed by Rizzo, and Randy beat him twice…theres no relevance..we will only know what cro cop and randy can do against eachother when it happens
by MMA Dude on Mar 16, 2007 12:43 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Randy’s gameplan can’t be based on Mirko’s inexperience with the octagon – that’d be plain stupid and potentially suicidal. The only thing Mirko has to get used to in the UFC are the drunken and boo’ing fans who mostly consist of pornstars and B-Level fighters who want some facetime, even if its PPV.
Is anyone else annoyed by the amount of hookers waving into the camera they show everytime between the fights? God I miss PrideFC – respectful fans, more or less unbiased commentators and refs and the show. But UFC has GSP, CroCop. Then again, PrideFC has Zelg, Fedor and Denis Kang.
Anyway – I hope to see Randy walk out of that fight alive, but I don’t see anything more optimistic than that.

Just saying its a different crowd than in japan or europe and that this would be the only thing mirko might have to adapt to. The topic is still on whenever or not Randy can beat CroCop and/or if he really has find a similiar weak spot like he obviously did with Syvlias technique.
As for the list of fighters: it was somewhat of a dialogue I have with myself right now – I used to watch PrideFC only and only for a year or so started watching UFC as well. But its getting somewhat of expensive to watch both promotions along with events like bodog or cage rage. Not advocating that Zuffa should simply buy them all, but then again every card usually has at least one promising fight I’d hate to miss.

@w153r: afterwards both fighters revealed that they haven’t been in the best condition to fight. CroCop was exhausted and tired, partly due to the many fights he had after his loss to Randleman and before taking Fedor, party because of jetlag. Fedor on the other hand was in preparations for an operation to his right hand, which didn’t allowed him to engage in striking as much as he wanted.
Fedor stating afterwards that it was the hardest fight he had until then shows that CroCop was a worthy opponent and making it to decision against Fedor is an accomplishment by itself in my book.
A rematch between those two is the #1 on my christmas wishlist.
by YouTapped on Mar 17, 2007 7:00 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The point I was making above is how much of an advantage Randys wrestling would be in this fight. Barnett had a good winning streak after his loss including beating Randy until he came up against Cro Cop. I did say previously that Randys best chance in my oppinion is a knock out in the first round, but again the point I’m trying to make is if wrestling didn’t help Josh then I find it difficult to see how it can help Randy.

YouTapped: I agree that a rematch would be epic, but that is why Cro Cop is in the UFC, because a rematch with Fedor was not in the foreseeable future. On another note, I’m scared for Randy, hopefully he goes back to taking people to the canvas rather than throwing hands, like he did with Tim.

Yea I noticed that too MoreThanUFC – I’m curious what he has in mind after the bodogFIGHTS finals as this seems to be the last confirmed/scheduled fight this year for fedor. With the PrideFC vs. PrideFC USA conflict still going on it will be interesting to see where Fedor will position himself.
Meanwhile he has alot of fighters fighting out of his camp and I assume partially its a business man’s decision now too.
