UFC Fight Night 8 final results

What a night.
I attended UFC Fight Night 8 this evening and it was quite an experience to say the least.
Here are the results:
--Rich Clementi defeated Ross Pointon via rear naked choke in round two
--Din Thomas defeated Clay Guida via unanimous decision
--Ed Herman defeated Chris Price via armbar in round one
--Josh Burkman defeated Chad Reiner via unanimous decision
--Nathan Marquardt defeated Dean Lister via unanimous decision
--Hermes Franca defeated Spencer Fisher via technical knockout in round two
--Jake O'Brien defeated Heath Herring via unanimous decision
--Rashad Evans defeated Sean Salmon via knockout in round two
Man, the Evans knockout of Salmon was nothing short of brutal. After the initial excitement of the quick finish, the building was eerily quiet when Salmon didn't wake up.
Most of you may have not seen it on television, but the post-fight scene was chaotic -- I've never seen anything like it.
Doctors and EMTs rushed to Salmon's aid in the aftermath, but he didn't gain conciousness. He was eventually carted off on a stretcher with no word on his condition.
I spoke with UFCJunkie, which sponsored Salmon for the fight, as well as read a few reports on the Internet.
Fortunately, Salmon is fine. However, I'm sure he might have a little headache in the morning.
All in all, this is really good news. It was tense in the Hard Rock to say the least.
We'll touch base tomorrow. All I have to say for now is that Clay Guida got robbed.

Now I know why I didn’t join the Marine Corps. Chris Price is a pussy. He didn’t even bother to make weight, and he was tapping out on that arm bar long before it was set. It makes you appreciate Hoyce Gracie hanging tough when Hughes was close to breaking his arm.

I’m very eager to see the Clay Guida fight … ever since i saw him win the Strikeforce lightweight belt he’s been a favorite of mine, always pushing the pace.

Rashad Evans saved the night for Spike TV and Dana White. I was disappointed with Heath Herring’s (if you want to call it) performance.
Why doesn’t the UFC deduct a point for every Lay and Pray fighter like Jake O’Brien. This would kill the LNP fighters due to the 10 point system. Man, was that ever frustrating to watch. Almost looked like Heath was expecting a yellow card from the referee…unfortunately for him, it isn’t Pride and the UFC tolerates wrestling matches.
All in all, it was a good night an I am envious that you got to go and I had to suffer -27 degree weather in Toronto last night.
My predictions went 5-3… lost on Franca, O’Brien and Thomas. Who knew?

Rashad has me convinced that his isn’t just a TUF fighter with a created reputation… I hope Sean is Ok! Didn’t Heath know this was an MMA fight? I liked Joe Rogans Comment “Hearing’s Jujitsu is barely bluebelt level” It was rediculus… I have seen standup guys look uncomfortable on the ground before, but that was terrible. I don’t give a shit that ground and pound, and Jujitsu isn’t as fan freindly. Jake put on a damn clinic on how you beat a big damn standup fighter that outweighs you by 35 pounds! IF those guys were 170’s and it went to the ground and GSP was working some dude with repeated takedowns, and getting his back over and over all that would be said is GSP is the shit… Give Jake O’brian his due! He worked a gameplan to win and EXCECUTED!!!

TRavis is right. Jake O’brien dominated a guy everyone thought was gonna kick his ass, and he made It look easy. He’s got my respect. Oh and I always knew Rashad was the shit!

I was in the first row behind hulk hogan during that fight last night and sean salmon looked DEAD to me, that kick rocked his SOUL. I am glad he is ok, It looked to me that with all those medics in there everyone looked to the other for what to do next.
Anyone know how or when this will air live again or where I can view the whole thing for personal use. If anyone tivo it please let me know.

heath herring sounded like a cry baby. I cannot believe how horrible he looked. If he had spent as much energy fighting as he did shrugging his shoulders and crying like a little girl he might have made the fight interesting. I’m not impressed at all. He doesn’t belong in the UFC. The only thing I can’t wait to see from the next herring fight is him getting knocked out. I am sure he will make some excuse about that and try to blame the other fighter for him sucking so bad. Oh by the way, nice hair, maybe he liked that kiss a little too much…..

I’ve been a fan of the UFC for quite a while, but that may have changed last night, when I saw the re-broadcast of the Salmon v, Rashad fight.
As we all know, after years of badly managed match-ups and poor formats, UFC seemed to have finally found a level of professionalism to make this great sport ‘ready-for-TV’
But what happened AFTER the Salmon v. Rashad fight makes me think that the UFC has lost its touch.
First: Why was Salmon approved to fight? He didn’t appear at all ready. MMA is likened to chess, but that is clearly not the case when one person in the ring is not ready. It make it look like the bloodsport MMA started out as.
Second: Joe Rogan came off looking like an unprofessional a&*hole. Hasn’t he been around this sort of thing long enough to know that expressing extreme glee while a combatant is lying near-dead behind him makes him look bloodthirsty, the whole sport look bad. Even when Rashad had the class to mention that he didn’t like that Salmon was not up yet, Joe Rogan blew right past it and went back to the kick.
I take it back…Rogan WAS an a#$hole. If Rashad had the presence of mind to consider his opponent’s condition, Rogan could have at least acknowledged that. But he was too busy gloating over the ‘kill’ he just witnessed.
Third: WHERE WAS THE REF? I know it happened fast, but as soon as Salmon was hit, my wife said ’he’s out on his feet’, and we both yelled ‘oh my god’ when his head hit the canvas. If we could react this quickly, why did the ref stand there and let Rashad deliver one, and possibly two more blows to the head?
As most of you know, its the second blow to the head that greatly increases the risk of permanent damage. Sean Salmon took three (including the mat), possibly four, before the ref stepped in. Very poorly done indeed.
