UFC HW Monson to fight Fedor at BoDog event
Unless you've been under a rock for the past 24 hours, then you know that Pride FC Heavyweight Champion -- and arguably the best mixed martial arts fighter in the world -- Fedor Emelianenko has agreed to appear in a BoDog event on March 3, 2007.
If you need to catch up on the story read more at FightOpinion.com.
His opponent?
Jeff "The Snowman" Monson.
Yep, the same guy who just lost a five-round decision to UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia at UFC 65.
Fedor's Pride contract expires after his fight with Mark Hunt on New Year's Eve. So, the news shouldn't be all that surprising that he is branching out.
But, it is.
Just read the story from the link above and you'll find out all the potential reasons behind Fedor's decision to sign with BoDog for the fight.
It's times like these that really make us wonder where the UFC heavyweight division is headed.
Sure, Dana White probably never had a chance to sign Fedor for his first post-Pride fight considering the circumstances. And, maybe Fedor will never make it into the Octagon.
But, we can still dream right?
The fact remains that the UFC heavyweight division lacks sizzle, which may be a gross understatement. At this time, we can't think of one heavyweight match up that we want to see in 2007.
Not one.
Listen, for all the crap that Tim Sylvia takes, he does beat whoever the UFC puts in the cage with him. It may not always be in exciting fashion -- or against the best -- but he wins.
We give the guy credit.
So, it's time to get him quality and world-ranked opponents -- it's long overdue. The fans want it, Tim Sylvia wants it ... let's make something happen, Dana White.
Having said all of that, we can't resist the rare opportunity to showcase the two greatest heavyweight fighters in the game today on UFCmania.com.
Here's an AWESOME highlight reel of Fedor Emelianenko and Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic:
Man, the UFC is missing out.
Thanks for sending in the video, Juan.
